Religion & Spirituality

There is a spiritual realm that is just as real as the physical world around us. Though the spiritual is nearly always unseen, that does not make it any less real. When we attempt to connect with or control the spiritual realm in an extra-biblical way, or an unbiblical way we dabble in occultist practices and open the door to demonic…no matter how “innocent” or “helpful” it may seem. Saul has consistently chosen rebellion against God and has ignored God’s many gracious attempts at giving him direction. Now that Saul finds himself in a situation beyond his control, he reaches out for God only to find that he has distanced himself too far from the Lord. God is not speaking to Saul, and so in his desperation he adds more evil to his rebellion and seeks the help of a medium. God overrides the medium’s occultist practices and gives Saul the message he hoped to never hear. Even in all of this, God was chasing after Saul with the heart of a gracious and loving father. This was Saul’s final opportunity to choose the path of humble repentance and he squandered it in foolishness. We never know when our last day will be, so today is always the right day to choose repentance.
