Business Over Beer

Business

This week on the second biggest podcast in the Pacific Northwest behind only the Sasquatch Hunters, The BOB broadcasts live from Ridgefield Craft Brewing Company with brewery owner Steve Dronen and special guests Mike Bomar and Max Ault. Mike and Max help us understand their roles at The Port of Vancouver (WA) and Washington State University, respectively, and the importance of Economic Development in our community.  Prost!   In this Episode: Economic Development is about: Helping implement a long term vision for the community. Understanding where the community wants to go and connecting the right people to make it happen.  Coordinating efforts from both the grass roots level and through higher level policy to grow and sustain the areas we want to live and work and play in. Ensuring the education pipeline aligns with the workforce needs of employers. Connecting educators to employers and policy makers and bridge gaps between those folks and their interests. Supplying the supply chain which supports all the small businesses that touch a given industry. A Common challenge from small businesses in our community is finding the right people, and not just those with the right technical training but also those that have proper training to navigate the corporate world. You can't fake passion and you can't fake love.   Guest Beers: Ridgefield Craft Brewing - Ridgefield, WA Norse Code, New England Style IPA, 6.4% ABV, 44 IBU "Our family roots sprout from Norway, as well as the Kveik yeast that contributes a wonderful tropical haze in this New England style IPA. Our hop contributions leave a strong presence of tropical citrus, stone fruit and a bit of tangerine."   Ridgefield Craft Brewing - Ridgefield, WA Str8 Up Lager, 5.1% ABV, 9 IBU "German styling throughout makes for a straight forward, pale colored, malty sweet Lager with gentle notes of honey, light caramel and bread. This full-bodied beer has a smooth mouthfeel with a light, crisp finish."   Angie's Mystery Beer: Stillwater Artisanal - Brooklyn, NY On Fleek, Imperial Stout, 13% ABV  "Big, overhyped imperial stouts, amirite? This one on fleek tho. The most amazing collaboration ever with Casita Cerveceria."   Episode Links: Port of Vancouver Washington State University Ridgefield Craft Brewing SouthBound Distributing United Grain Great Western Malting Loowit Brewing Fourth Plain Forward Why Oregon (and Washington) is still so White - OPB/NPR Michael Jackson - Black or White Casita Cerveceria Duo NYC Heathen Brewing North Bank Brewers Alliance Ridgefield Raptors What is a balk?
