This week on the second biggest podcast in the Pacific NW behind only the Sasquatch Hunters, we welcome former Portland Timbers defender, Futty Danso, to the program - RCTID! Futty shares with us his story of how he got started playing soccer in his native country of Gambia West Africa, how he made his way to the States for college and ultimately playing professional Soccer in the MLS, making a home in Portland, where he is now starting a new Soccer Camp. We talk about some of the challenges he encountered adapting to American culture and he shares his views on the current state and future outlook of Soccer in the US. Special thanks to Caitlin Wilson, dear friend of the show, for hosting the recording from In Light Hyperbarics in Vancouver, WA. Check out the Episode Links below for a SPECIAL OFFER from In Light.   Prost!   In This Episode: Coming from a loose culture in Gambia, being on his own for the first time, and acting the same way as he did in his home country, Futty had some trouble adapting to his new life as a college student in America.   It was a life changing moment when his "American Parents" took him in and helped him adapt to life in the U.S.   Futty and Caitlin Wilson became fast friends while neighbors in Portland, and their friendship saved his career after he fractured his fifth metatarsal (baby toe) and he used the light therapy from In Light Hyperbarics that healed his career threatening injury. With television exposure of worldwide soccer leagues, American's love of BIG stadiums, European leagues playing MLS teams in preseason games, soccer will continue to gain popularity in the U.S.  The business side of club soccer in america means that those who can afford to join clubs, not necessarily the best players, get the opportunities, so some great talents never get the chance to play and advance.   Futty is currently training with T2, the Portland Timbers development team, with his eye on a comeback to the field, where he hopes to play until the age of 40.  But with an understanding that official retirement is not far off, he plans on becoming a coach after his playing days are over. During Covid quarantine, Futty began coaching kids in North Carolina, helping kids who could not afford proper club soccer, giving him the idea to begin coaching his new Soccer Camp.  His Soccer Camps will be true developmental training, committed to one on one training, teaching the fundamentals and technical skills, not just the spectacle of being trained by a professional.   Guest Beer: Baerlic Brewing - Portland, OR Dream Life, Farmhouse Ale, 4.9% ABV "Meyer lemon farmhouse ale, with sea salt, meyer lemons and triskel hops."   Host Beer: Fort George Brewery - Astoria OR Sunrise OPA, Oatmeal Pale Ale, 5.5% ABV "A good beer for drinking any time of the day, even when the sun is rising.
