I'm back again, with another solo episode! This week, I'm talking about the importance of rest. As you might imagine, it's inspired by the last two weeks, in which I've been recovering from my 100 km ultramarathon. Most coaches recommend active recovery, and I'm certainly not going to talk you out of the value of that, but I just haven't been up to it—so I've been taking a break from running. My muscles felt great just a couple of days after the race, and so I went on a run a few days after. But I felt really tired the next day, and so I rested again. And again. And again. I'm getting back into running this week, but for the last fortnight it's been an adventure in rest. I originally wanted to get a nap expert or a rest expert on the show to talk about rest, but I'm not a napper, and the rest people I found were experts in yoga nidra and things that I also don't do. So today's episode is all about the value of non-doing, and resting by just not doing the thing that made you tired. Not really rocket science, but it's something that I find hard to do.   Listen To This Episode        What You'll Learn Why rest is so important How to give yourself permission to rest How to improve sleep quality How to achieve holistic rest—a look at the different types of rest How to rest How to create your own rest menu How not to rest How to plan rest into calendar   Things I Discussed Oura ring This is Your Mind on Plants, by Michael Pollan  Binaural beats  Theragun  Off-brand massage gun    Related Episodes 380 Sarah K Brandis ~ What To Do When Our Passions Lead To Burnout (now with downloadable transcript!) 324 Holly Worton ~ How to Keep Overwhelm From Becoming Burnout (now with downloadable transcript!) 320 Holly Worton ~ Feeling Stuck?
