I am so excited (as always) to bring you today’s episode about goals and specifically those goals that have been put on the shelf or shoved down because you may not have achieved them the first time you pursued them. Anyone who has ever tried at something has experienced this – I know I have - and, as a result, may find themselves a bit afraid to try again. Whether it’s a goal about fitness, career, relationships, or anything else in your life, the important thing is how you respond if you don’t immediately succeed, and today, I’m going to walk you through some steps that have worked for me which I know will work for you as well. To begin with, I’ll review with you details of my goal involving running a marathon, and I’ll explain what I mean by ‘false starts’ in our lives as well as what I have learned from them over the years. We’ll then walk through the steps you can follow to respond to these events in your lives, complete with examples from my own experience. This is such an important conversation to have since dusting off old goals and employing a positive and productive approach to them can make a huge difference in our lives. I sincerely encourage you to dig out one of yours, begin to implement the strategies offered here today, and contact me with the details so I can offer the support that is so very crucial, and which you so richly deserve. And don’t forget, if there is ever a topic you would like me to discuss or a guest you’d like me to interview on the podcast, please feel free to contact me at pr@kellytravis.net - I would love to hear from you!   The Finer Details of This Episode:   Kelly’s marathon goal   ‘False starts’ and what Kelly has learned from them   Steps to follow in responding to ‘false starts’   Examples from Kelly’s experiences   Quotes: “The difference is how we take what we learned from the first, second, or even fifth attempt, and we apply it to the next one.” “We tend to chase other people's goals a lot, and that gets us into trouble.” “It's the everyday work that we're doing that counts.” “If we don't have people in our life that understand what we're working towards, they might try to distract us from the work we're doing.”  “Think about ways you can ask for help so you can commit time to your goal.” “When it comes to the goal you’re pursuing right now, how consistent are you with your actions?” “That messy middle is not fun!” “We have to be in the moment, we have to be present when we're doing this work, because we can get in our head and it totally derails us.” “This comes down to the self-talk we have with ourselves.” “Just because you failed once or twice or three times does not mean you cannot achieve it.” “Let me know if you're going to pull an old goal out and work on it again.
