I'm excited to share with you some beautiful insights on John 3:16-17 tonight. Most people could quote the verse, but many do not understand the beautiful truths here. We see that "God so loved the world that He gave His Only Begotten Son." The first thing you should see is that God is love. He is not love but also ________ (insert any religious, judgmental thought here.) He is Love! In Greek, the Only Begotten Son is "monogene huion." It means that there is only ONE gene, ONE true origin of every race and nation. And if our true origin is The Father Himself, we are sons. The word son, "huion" in Greek, means properly a son (by birth or adoption); figuratively sharing the same likeness and nature of The Father. If we are sons, that means we have a wonderful inheritance. As loved sons and daughters, He has given everyone the firstborn portion out of His love for us. The firstborn portion of an inheritance was a double portion. John is expressing that out of His love for you, all of you have been given an overflowing, double portion of everything you could ever need or desire.
