The call to #DefundThePolice has been presented by the Democratic party establishment as the main reason Democrats underperformed in the 2020 elections, with Obama calling it a "snappy slogan" which alienated key voters.Activists have countered claiming it drove people to the polls and focusing on the spectacular violence of policing and demanding they pay the price in their budgets is a key mobilizing tool. In this talk with Dr. Jared Ball, we interrogate both these claims to reveal that both sides of this debate, fail to address critical questions around how to organize for radical grassroots change.
