After several questions from my clients and subscribers on this subject I decided to explain the difference between each. Many think they are one in the same, however this could not be further from the truth. The only commonality is a consultant may come in to consult the company management or ownership with a certain challenge. On the back end they may work as a mentor or "coach" to the staff to help accomplish an end goal. This narrow stream is where they meet, however that's it. If you have ever played competitive sports, you know first hand what it's like to work with a coach. They are there to help guide, mentor, and help you become a better leader. They are there to help get you there, but never to do the work. A great coach much like a head coach for a professional team has a track record that work in contrast with the team they lead. Experience is not a necessity, however I would hope someone that coaches me has the experience to help me get to where I need. A consultant is most likely a "project" man or women that looks at a more long term problem possibly with efficiency issues or communication breakdown issues. They are there for a task and have very little to no skin in the game as far as the performance level of an individual or company for that matter. In this podcast Season 2/ Episode 22 we go over the difference in this weeks version of "Business Boxing"
