Texas became America's first state with more than 1 million cumulative confirmed COVID-19 cases. In the state, sporting events are being canceled and El Paso is adding mobile morgues in anticipation of deaths to come. Texas recorded more than 10,800 new cases Tuesday, a new daily record. Another milestone, the U.K. yesterday became the fifth country to record more than 50,000 coronavirus-related deaths at 50,365. And that figure could be low. The total does not include those who died of COVID-related symptoms after 28 days.Russia not to be outdone after Pfizer’s vaccine news. Developers of their Sputnik V experimental vaccine say their early data from a large trial suggests it appears to be 92% effective. It’s a two-shot vaccine touted as the world's first to get the go ahead from a government, which it got without completing advanced testing. According to a Gallup poll, 49% of Americans say they’d be very likely to stay home for a month if health officials recommended another total lockdown. Sounds like a lot, but it’s actually way down from 67% who said that in late March and early April. A full third said they’d be very or somewhat unlikely to comply.When will people be able to go to concerts again? Ticketmaster is trying to figure that out. They’re developing a plan for event operators. One idea, syncing attendees’ COVID vaccine status or test results from healthcare providers to their digital tickets before they’ll be allowed entry. Ticketmaster stressed it would not have access to customers’ medical records.The top 10 counties with the highest number of recent cases per capita according to The New York Times: Childress, TX. Jones, IA. Calhoun, IA. Norton, KS. Eddy, ND. Walsh, ND. Toole, MT. Dewey, SD. Cavalier, ND. And Hodgeman, KS. There are now 3,812,554 active cases in the United States. The current Top 10 states by number of active cases: California, Florida, Arizona, Illinois, Texas, Virginia, Missouri, Georgia, Maryland, and Alabama. The five states with the most daily new cases per capita over 7 days are North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.The reproduction rate is currently highest in Maine, Vermont, New York, Illinois, and Iowa. There are two states with a reproduction rate below 1 and they are Mississippi and North Carolina.There’ve been a total 241,047 deaths in the US reported as COVID-related, with a current national fatality rate of 2.37%.The states with the most new deaths reported as COVID-related: Illinois 153. Texas 120. Tennessee 89. Alabama 81. Georgia 76. Ohio 68. Wisconsin and Pennsylvania 62. Minnesota 58. And Florida 48. Globally, there are now 14,467,039 active cases.There are 566,757 new cases around the world in the last 24 hours compared to a high of 605,573 on November 5. The five countries with the most new cases: the United States 142,808. India 48,285. Brazil 47,724. France 35,879. And Italy 32,961. There have now been 1,282,184 deaths worldwide.
