A 10-person limit any social gatherings and Mayor Lori Lightfoot said, “cancel the normal Thanksgiving plans.” Indoor dining was already banned, now residents are urged to not go out for anything other than essentials possibly for 30 days. A month ago, Chicago was reporting 500 daily cases on average. Now, the city is averaging roughly 1,900 daily cases. The CDC is projecting 260,000 to 282,000 coronavirus deaths by December 5. Another widely-used Covid-19 model run by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation is predicting 438,941 deaths by March 1. And that’s if states do not relax restrictions and mask mandates.Massachusetts was seen as a model for infection control this summer. But deaths there have now surpassed 10,000. Massachusetts has the sixth-highest death toll in the U.S. behind New York, Texas, California, New Jersey and Florida. And California has become the second state in the U.S. to top one million cumulative Covid cases a week after Texas hit that mark.A CDC report tells us disruptions to daily life, anxiety about getting Covid-19, and social isolation are taking a toll on children's mental health. From the middle of March to October, the proportion of ER visits related to children's mental health rose dramatically for school-aged children and adolescents compared to the previous year. Those 12-17 seem to have been hit hardest. The rule at Costco is everyone has to wear a mask, but some people won’t, citing medical reasons that they can’t. Some even have official-looking cards that say they don’t have to. But the company has now said if you can’t wear a mask for medical reasons, fine. But you’ll have to wear a face shield instead.The top 10 counties with the highest number of recent cases per capita according to The New York Times: Childress, TX. Jones, TX. Jones, IA. Calhoun, IA. Eddy, ND. Dewey, SD. Norton, KS. Toole, MT. Gray, TX. And Walsh, ND. There are now 3,897,231 active cases in the United States. The current Top 10 states by number of active cases: California, Florida, Illinois overtakes Arizona, Texas, Virginia, Missouri, Georgia, Maryland, and Michigan and New York surpass Alabama. The five states with the most daily new cases per capita over 7 days are North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.The reproduction rate is currently highest in Maine, Vermont, New York, Minnesota, and Washington. There is one state with a reproduction rate below 1 and that is Mississippi.There’ve been a total 242,622 deaths in the US reported as COVID-related, with a current national fatality rate of 2.35%.The states with the most new deaths reported as COVID-related: Texas 157. Florida 77. Georgia 75. Wisconsin 58. Pennsylvania 57. Indiana 51. Michigan 49. Illinois 48. And Minnesota and Louisiana with 39. Globally, there are now 14,576,345 active cases.There are 618,441 new cases around the world in the last 24 hours and that is a new all-time record high. The five countries with the most new cases: the United States 161,541. India 43,861. Italy 37,978. Brazil 34,640. And the U.K. 33,470. There have now been 1,291,937 deaths worldwide.
