The point of the strike is to pressure their hospital into increasing staff. Their union has pushed for bills requiring hospitals to set limits on how many patients a nurse cares for in a day.Similar concerns in Hungary as doctors there warn a lack of qualified ICU medical staff could lead to soaring deaths and a breakdown of the country’s health care system. The recent sharp rise in hospitalizations has led to a patient-to-doctor ratio of 20-to-1 in some ICUs.An analysis from the Federation of American Scientists says North Dakota’s coronavirus mortality rate is the highest of any U.S. state or country. 18.2 deaths per 1 million people. South Dakota is close behind at 17.4 deaths per million, that’s the third-worst rate in the world. The famous have gotten COVID, but so have the infamous. Doctors believe Harvey Weinstein, now an inmate in New York, has it. Sources say it’s anything but a mild case. He’s in isolation with a 101-degree temperature. The current Top 10 states by number of active cases: California, Illinois, Florida, Arizona, Texas, Missouri, Virginia, Maryland, Georgia, and Michigan. The five states with the most daily new cases per capita over 7 days are North Dakota, Iowa, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Minnesota.The reproduction rate is currently highest in Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, and Washington. There is one state with a reproduction rate below 1 and that is Mississippi.There’ve been a total 248,555 deaths in the US reported as COVID-related, with a current national fatality rate of 2.23%.The states with the most new deaths reported as COVID-related: Texas 117.
