Maa Shailaputri is the goddess that is worshipped on the first day of the nine-day-long Hindu festival of Navratri. Shailaputri means the daughter of the mountains. She is immensely powerful, she rides a bull called Nandi and she carries a trident and a lotus. She’s known for her many many glories. She is also known as the Goddess of the Muladhara (Root) chakra. Upon awakening the root chakra, one begins their journey towards spiritual awakening and discovering their purpose in life. Shaila means born out of the peak, any experience when you get when its in it peak.

“Praying to Shailaputri brings strength like a stone; it brings commitment. When the mind is wavering, chanting the name of Devi helps the mind to be centred and committed. It gives us strength, courage, and composure.”
