Low expectations for teenagers in the norm in modern culture. We expect teenagers to be lazy, unmotivated, unstable, irresponsible and emotional. But the idea of being an adolescent is a very recent one. Just 100 years ago 12 & 13 year olds were entering the work world, and started towards owning their own homes and getting married. They were young men and women, but they were responsible and eager to make their lives matter. Tonight we look at the erosion of expectations for these formative years.
