Driven Woman Podcast

Education

The timing for a very raw conversation about colour, culture and class in Jamaica couldn’t be more perfect. This conversation with Dr. Kim-Marie Spence is a must listen episode! Kim-Marie Spence is a cultural industries and policy academic as well as a  Rhodes Scholar. She is the epitome of driven and I personally identify with her on so many levels. Kim-Marie shares with us  how living in 11 countries (including Antarctica) helped her to have a global perspective. This perspective ultimately helped her to overcome self doubt and insecurities emerging from unpleasant confrontations related to class and colour. If you’re a high achiever not from the ‘requisite background’ you’ll learn a lot from Kim-Marie on how to navigate spaces where you’re faced with opposition. She speaks about her views on Cecil Rhodes, a point of view I think is absolutely progressive. Kim-Marie shares action steps for persons ready to pursue their dreams and why driven women have to make a decision around their family life early on. Finally, stay for the laughter and a light hearted approach towards topics that can be pretty heavy for some of us.
