Easter Sunday April 12, 2020 Prelude Greeting Alleluia! Alleluia! The grace of our risen Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. Song: Jesus Christ is Risen Today ELW 365 1. Jesus Christ is ris’n today, Alleluia! Our triumphant holy day, Alleluia! Who did once upon the cross, Alleluia! Suffer death to redeem our loss, Alleluia! 2. Hymns of praise then let us sing, Alleluia! Unto Christ, our heav’nly king, Alleluia! Who endured the cross and shame, Alleluia, sinners to redeem and save, Alleluia! 3. But the pains which he endured, Alleluia! Our salvation have procured, Alleluia! Now above the sky he’s king, Alleluia! Where the angels ever sing, Alleluia! 4. Sing we to our God above, Alleluia! Praise eternal as his love; Alleluia! Praise him, all you heav’nly hosts, Alleluia! Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, Alleluia! Easter Proclamation Alleluia! Christ is Risen! Christ is Risen, indeed, Alleluia! Easter Prayer Holy God, The news of your resurrection was shocking and surprising when it was first heard. May our joyful proclamations give voice to hope, love, and joy. In the name of our risen Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen. Gospel Mark 16:1-8 When the sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. They had been saying to one another, ‘Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?’ When they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled back. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. But he said to them, ‘Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you.’ So they went out and fled from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid. Easter Meditation Song ELW 367 Now All the Vault of Heaven Resounds 1. Now all the vault of heav’n resounds in praise of love that still abounds: “Christ has triumphed! He is living!” Sing, choirs of angels, loud and clear! Repeat their song of glory here: “Christ has triumphed! He is living!” Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleuluia! 2. Eternal is the gift he brings, therefore our heart with raptures sings: “Christ has triumphed! He is living!” Now still her comes to give us life and by his presence stills all strife, “Christ has triumphed! He is living!” Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia! 3. Oh, fill us, Lord, with dauntless love, set heart and will on things above that we conquer through your triumph; grant grace sufficient for life’s day that by our lives we truly say: “Christ has triumphed! He is living!” Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia! 4. Adoring praises now we bring and with the heav’nly blessed sing: “Christ has triumphed! Alleluia!” Be to the Father, and our Lord, to Spirit blest, most holy God, all the glory, never ending! Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia! Creed Together with the saints of all times and all places, let us confess our faith with the words of the Apostles Creed. I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen Prayers On this day of new life, we pray for the church, the world, and all people in any need. With your breath you give all your children a voice, even when we are frightened into silence. Help us claim our own voices, and speak in one voice with you. Have mercy risen God, Alleluia! New life blooms and grows, greeting us with your incredible imagination and promise of life this resurrection day. Give us compassion enough to work to preserve the health of your amazing creation. Have mercy risen God, Alleluia! In the midst of this pandemic, we see the best and the worst of people. Grant your patience, calm our anxieties and our fears, pour your calm and your peace upon us. Have mercy risen God, Alleluia! At times accomplishing anything these days feels as impossible as moving the stone at Jesus’ tomb. Allow us to see not only a way through these challenging days, but joy and love in their midst. Have mercy risen God, Alleluia! Grant elected leaders at all levels of governance and government a vision for healing and wholeness for your whole creation, a sense justice that uplifts everyone’s humanity and dignity. Have mercy risen God, Alleluia! Your new life gives us life. Grant your healing spirit upon all those who need it this day, especially those who we name aloud or in the silence of our hearts… Have mercy risen God, Alleluia! You call us into community. Inspire us to find creative ways to reach out as we practice compassionate distancing, that all your children may engage you through us. Have mercy risen God, Alleluia! . All the saints in heaven and on earth join together to rejoice at your resurrection. Make us joyful in our communion, and grateful that because of you, we also have a place in your eternal kingdom. Have mercy risen God, Alleluia! In sadness and in joy, you hear our prayers, O God. Hold in your hands all these things for which we ask, trusting in the mercy of the one who defeated death, Jesus Christ. Amen. The Peace The Peace of the living Christ be with you always, And also with you Lord's Prayer Jesus remember us in your kingdom and teach us to pray: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed by thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen Song Thine is the Glory ELW 376 1. Thine is the glory, risen, conqu’ring Son; endless is the vict’ry thou o’er death hast won! Angels in bright raiment rolled the stone away, kept the folded grave-clothes where thy body lay. Refrain: Thine is the glory, risen conqu’ring Son; endless is the vict’ry thou o’er death hast won. 2. Lo, Jesus meets thee, risen from the tomb! Lovingly he greets thee, scatters fear and gloom; let his church with gladness hymns of triumph sing, for the Lord now liveth; death hath lost its sting! 3. No more we doubt thee, glorious Prince of life; life is naught without thee, aid us in our strife; make us more than conqu’rors, through thy deathless love; bring us safe through Jordan to thy home above. Thanksgiving for Baptism/Blessing Just as God’s work of creation never ends, so the gifts received in baptism are renewed every day. Let us give thanks together for the life given in baptism. We give you thanks, O God, for the waters of life: for water to bathe in, to drink, to play in, waters that inspire wonder, water that gives life to our planet. We give you thanks, O God, for the waters of life. We give you thanks, O God, for the waters of this place: from our tap, from rain and snow, for the Fox River, all the little lakes nearby, and Lake Michigan. We give you thanks, O God, for the waters of this place. We give you thanks for your salvation through water: for delivering Noah and his family through the floodwaters, for leading your people Israel through the sea into freedom, for preserving your prophet Elijah through the time of drought, for guiding your people across the Jordan into a new land, for quenching the Samaritan woman’s thirst with living water. We give you thanks for your salvation through water. We give you thanks for the life of all the baptized, for godparents, baptismal sponsors and buddies, for all our siblings in Christ around the globe. We give you thanks for the life of all the baptized. We give you thanks for renewed life in Christ through your Holy Spirit: for our entry into Jesus’ death and our new birth into a life of freedom and service, for our calling to be your people, sent out for the life of the world. We give you thanks, blessed and holy Trinity, now and forever. Amen. Beloved of God, you are sealed by the Holy Spirit, marked with the cross of the risen Christ, and held in God’s loving covenant forever! Amen Blessing Alleluia! Christ is risen.
