"Far Away From Any Place Called Home" excerpt from Joanna Wallfisch's show THE GREAT SONG CYCLE performed August 2018 at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. ©Far Away From Any Place Called Home 2018 In the summer of 2016 critically acclaimed singer-songwriter, Joanna Wallfisch, shirked trains, planes and automobiles as means of touring in favour of a bicycle. She travelled 1,154 miles down the Pacific Coast Highway, carrying her whole world in four small pannier bags, inclusive of a ukulele and loop pedal. Pushing through challenge and triumph while traversing the coast with only her body and two thin wheels propelling her forward, what transpired was a concert tour made richer by the beautiful struggle Joanna intentionally created. In her masterful and inimitable way Joanna has distilled this adventure into a 50 minute, through composed one-woman musical, or song-cycle. Using song and spoken-word Joanna invites the audience to saddle up as she leads them through a myriad of landscapes and curious encounters, from the mediation found in the solitude of the road to cautionary tales of a father who gave his 5 year old son whiskey on a camping trip, and hilarious accounts such as of “Rex The Traveling Dog” - an inanimate fairground dog-turned-best friend she met on Morro Bay Beach. Accompanying herself on ukulele, toy piano, kazoo, and creating sublime vocal soundscapes on her loop pedal, this is a journey not to be missed. —————————————————————- What the critics say: “Wallfisch’s approach to performance is dynamic. She composes enticing, lush music with impeccable soundscapes…Her voice evokes depth and crystal clarity. With childlike certainty she is an earth goddess singing her story, and before you, her heart’s inner workings unfold in poetic verse.” - Culture Quest LA
