One of my goals for the year was to work on my arms and leg muscles so I did something very scary and hired a trainer! Not just any trainer, but a bodybuilder who is very muscular. Now I’m not planning on doing any bodybuilding competitions but I figured it would be best to learn from someone super experienced in that area. I had my first session yesterday and she’s giving me all the things I need to get started like meal plans and measurements.    Now, this is where I’m going to get embarrassed but that’s the point of this episode… I  was rushing around to get to my first session on Tuesday morning. I know that I’m going to work with her for 45 minutes but other than that I wasn’t really sure what to expect. We start off with an exercise band and she shows me what she wants me to do, walking sideways and doing squats. It was SO hard! That band was deceiving and I tried to keep my cool and play it off since it was a warm-up exercise. Then we move to the weight machine and she’s watching me try these exercises. This is uncomfortable for me because I’m not big into people watching when I’m not confident in what I’m doing. But that’s her job to watch and encourage me and make sure I’m doing it correctly. It came time to do lunges down and back and at this point, I’m about to throw up. I’m desperately trying to keep it together but it’s tough. I have to sit down and focus try to catch my breath. I stand back up and go talk to her and finally admit I’m feeling a little dizzy. I told her I was embarrassed because I feel like such a pansy. She explained that it’s part of the process when you first start training.    When I go through the exercises again, she reminded me to do my breathing exercises correctly and I felt much better. But today, I can barely move and walk. All that to say, I felt embarrassed. I wasn’t good at it but embarrassment is a part of life. Way too many people don’t take the next step in what they want to achieve because they’re worried they’re going to be bad at it. Embarrassment is a rite of passage! If you feel embarrassed, keep going, you are doing amazing! I’m so proud of you and you should pat yourself on the back! Look for opportunities, to possibly embarrass yourself, because that’s where the growth comes in! You’re never great when you first start something, but you’re leaps and bounds ahead of the people that are napping on the couch! Last week’s episode covered live videos and why you should do them. In my Instagram stories, I asked if you’re not doing them what’s the reason for avoiding them. And I heard loud and clear that FEAR was the main cause. We can’t let fear or perfectionist tendencies let us stop us from taking the next step in your life! Fear and worries of not being good enough are from the enemy. Replace those ideas with the truth, you’re here for a reason!! I am proud of you and I want you to put yourself out there. Embarrassment is a rite of passage!
