As much as we might wish it to be otherwise, Mother’s Day may not be all about celebration and appreciation. If you’ve experienced childhood abuse or neglect, or the loss of a parent in one form or another, the day can bring up complex emotions and trigger deep wounds. To explore what this can look and feel like — and what we can do about it — I recently had a conversation with Dr. Danica Harris. She is a private-practice therapist and co-owner of Empowered Healing Dallas, and a clinical faculty member at Texas Women’s University. Her practice focuses on clients who deal with trauma, and here she offers key insights for navigating both caregiver-related holidays like Mother’s Day and the internal world of attachment and relational trauma. Show Notes [2:49] “Attachment-related trauma” and “secure attachment” [7:16]  Recognizing expectations and wound triggers [11:16] We’re all out in the world “connecting and colliding” [14:30] “Going inside” and creating safety [24:00] Planning ahead of time and getting support [29:44] Trauma-informed therapy and becoming your own expert   You can get in touch with Danica via: Instagram: @theempoweredtherapist Website: www.empoweredhealingdallas.com And do share in the comments: How do you experience Mother’s Day? Is it a day that brings up difficult emotions for you? If so, how do you navigate them? Related Posts and Podcasts: Emotions: Unwanted Interlopers or Helpful Messengers?
