“You remind me that it’s such a wonderful thing to love.” In Episode 22 Kiara welcomes back Kerri via Zoom (after a seventeen-episode hiatus!) to discuss Florence + The Machine’s incredibly intimate fourth record, High as Hope (2018). Before getting into the specifics of the record, the two discuss the magic of the ethereal human-angel-person known as Florence Welch, their experience seeing her perform live, and the dramatics of a good ol’ flip phone. We also pay homage to FATM’s legendary front woman with a couple Florence cocktails, praising her deeply poetic yet relatable lyrics and the album’s recurring themes of self-reflection and discovery, the band’s crazy harp action, and their storm-summoning appearances. But much like Florence’s songwriting, there are also multiple detours in the conversation; ideas for an Eat Pray Love sequel, Tiger King, Elon Musk’s alleged Pokémon obsession, and male suitors with iPads.
