A review of The Inventor, an HBO documentary investigating the rise and fall of Theranos, the one-time multibillion-dollar healthcare company founded by Elizabeth Holmes, currently on trial. In 2004, she dropped out of Stanford to start a company that was going to revolutionize healthcare. In 2014, Theranos was valued at $9 billion, making Holmes, who was touted as “the next Steve Jobs,” the youngest self-made female billionaire in the world. Just two years later, Theranos was cited as a “massive fraud” by the SEC, and its value was less than zero. The Inventor tells a Silicon Valley tale that was too good to be true, and explores the psychology of deception. Legal commentator Emily D. Baker discusses the charges against Elizabeth Holmes. New York Times reporter Erin Griffiths discusses how a generation of female entrepreneurs, particularly those in life sciences, biotechnology and health care, are still operating in the shadow of Ms. Holmes.  Reality Life with Kate CaseyPatreon: http://www.patreon.com/katecaseyCameo: https://cameo.com/katecaseyTwitter: https://twitter.com/katecaseyInstagram: http://www.instagram.com/katecaseycaTik Tok: http://www.tiktok.com/itskatecaseyClubhouse: @katecasey Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/113157919338245Amazon.com: www.amazon.com/shop/katecasey  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
