#002 - Hemp, the home office and growing. Hemp farmers don't have an easy time in the UK or in some countries around Europe. In the UK farmers need a home office license to grow hemp because hemp is still classified as a controlled substance under the UK's 1971 Misuse of Drugs Act (MoDA). If a farmer does get a hemp license, they are not permitted to harvest the bud and flower of the plant. This must be destroyed. The net result is that UK farmers miss out on the true potential of the plant. And no one knows this better than Hempen, who ran into difficulties this summer with the home office.  In the this episode Gary meets: - Patrick Gillett from the collective Hempen who are based in the Oxfordshire countryside. Visit Hempen online here https://www.hempen.co.uk - Rebekah Shaman who is an author, Shaman and chair of the British Hemp Association. The BHA campaign on behalf of British hemp farmers and their aims including taking hemp out of the home office and putting it under DEFRA as an agricultural crop. BHA website https://www.britishhempassociation.co.uk/ - Lorenza Romanese director of the European Industrial Hemp Association (EIHA). EIHA lobby in Brussels on behalf of European hemp farmers and processing plants in order to improve the outdated legislation that is still locked into the UN conventions drawn up in the 1960s.
