In Ep.28 I start my 3 part series dedicated to the atrocities of the East German Doping Scandal. At the height of the programme over 1,500 doctors and scientists were employed and perhaps as many as 10,000 athletes where affected, the vast majority of which would have unaware of the oral anabolic steroids they were taking because they were described as “vitamin pills that would compensate for their lack of nutrition”. The oral anabolic steroid Oral-Turinabol was the most commonly supplied steroid by this state sponsored doping machine. The steroid was supplied to male and female athletes, some of which were as young as 10 years old and particularly for female athletes this resulted in permanent masculinisation of body parts.
