The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is the next big item on BJP's political agenda. Though it might seem like a BJP led issue but the need for a UCC in India was identified long before during the writing of our constitution. It has been embedded in our directive principles and left for future governments to bring about. Today, the enforcement of a UCC is being objected by the Muslim community in India as it signals state interference in religious matters and goes against the sharia based Muslim Personal laws.
