Visit us or Message us on Facebook: Boiling Point on WAIF 88.3 FM NOTE: During our live broadcast, we received several emergency weather notifications. Since those no longer apply, we've edited those notifications from our recording for this podcast. A brief gap in sound indicates an omitted section of the original broadcast. Gaps occur at 00:17:49, 00:39:28, and 00:41:17. In our first hour, we discuss a Vision Zero initiative with guest Derek Bauman, a recently retired police officer of 26 years (primarily with Mason, OH). Derek has been a resident of Over the Rhine for about 9 years, and he's a long-time public transit advocate as a board member of statewide transit advocacy 501(c)(3) All Aboard Ohio. He's an executive committee member of the Cincinnati NAACP and the author of the national NAACP Policy proclaiming public transit a civil right. Vision Zero is a holistic plan for improving traffic and pedestrian safety. You can see how it was implemented in Philadelphia here. In our second hour, we're joined by Debbie Mullikin, president of the National Treasury Employees Union chapter 73, to talk about the effects of the recent government shutdown on local workers. Full synopsis to come.
