Miscellaneous

Running for office in the 28th Congressional District of Texas is Jessica Cisneros (https://www.jessicacisnerosforcongress.com/), a bilingual, progressive Latina and immigration and human rights attorney. Born in Laredo, Jessica grew up in the Sal Si Puedes neighborhood and took the time to inform us about her experiences in living near the U.S.-Mexico border, how South Texans still lack adequate health care, the importance of having all stakeholders at the table when negotiating international trade deals, and more. On March 3, 2020, Jessica will face off in the Democratic primary against the incumbent officeholder, Henry Cuellar. And although we're still months out from this important race, we encourage all voters from TX-28 who are living abroad to request their absentee ballots in a timely manner (ENG: https://www.votefromabroad.org/; ESP: https://www.votefromabroad.org/es).   *Note: As the Democrats Abroad Hispanic Caucus is part of the Democratic Party, we do not formally endorse a candidate before a Democratic primary has occurred when there is more than one candidate running for the same seat. As such, we have invited Mr. Cuellar to speak with us on our podcast to state his case as to why voters should reelect him. Unfortunately, neither the congressman nor his campaign responded to our invitation. We are grateful to hear directly from Ms. Cisneros who did accept our invitation. Los comentarios en español comienzan a las 16:56 en la conversación. (Spanish-language remarks begin at 16:56 into the conversation.) Hispanic Caucus participants in this episode: Sam Stone (Mexico), Michaele De Rivera (Mexico), and Michael Ramos (Australia). Podcast music provided by Carlos Colao (Spain).
