Golden, golden, golden! This week we break down Harry Styles's song Golden, the album opener of his second album, Fine Line. We talk about the dreamy and sunshiney imagery in the versus and how the tingly music parallels these lyrics. We break down the song’s underlying message about the fear of losing your identity in a relationship and the deep loneliness after a breakup. Harry literally makes you read between the lines to see it: “You’re so golden/I don’t want to be alone/You’re so golden.” We also discuss the possibility that Harry’s words are directed, not to a lover, but to a past or other self who is too scared to live freely and authentically.
