Surviving the Music Industry

Music

Drums, ice cream trucks, and looking at the lives of session elitist Greg Morrow and social media drummer, educator, Tim Buell. Tim steps in to talk about how he went from touring drummer to social media educator/influencer in the world of drums. You've heard Greg's drum work from ZZ Top, Luke Bryan, Kacey Musgraves, and more. We sit down to take a reflective look at how Greg came to be, and what he thinks has changed in the world of session playing.    Tim Buell has toured with Gloriana, Jana Kramer, Jerrod Niemann, Cody Fry, Remedy Drive, and others. In recent years he's quickly become an influencer in the drumming community. All starting from social media. He also offers educational resources in the form of lessons, courses, eBooks, and transcriptions from online. He now works with big companies of brands/artists like Vic Firth, Zildjian, 180 Drums, Stephen's Drum Shed, Ash Soan, and others. I have seen his following grow and even form a community from just a couple of hundred to now ten's of thousands of followers from his Instagram. We take a look at the beginning of his new life and how that community grew. He also has started a new podcast, "You're Good, Get Better" that shares conversations ranging from drums but also life and business. Visit  for everything and follow him @timbuell.   Morrow has performed and recorded with Blake Shelton, Don Henley, Joe Bonamassa, Billy Gibbons, Bob Seger, Luke Bryan, the Dixie Chicks, Kacey Musgraves, Steve Earle, Kenny Rogers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Trace Adkins, Sugarland, Sheryl Crow and way more.  He actively tours in Bob Seger's Silver Bullet Band and is active in the session scene. Morrow is a member of Big Al Anderson’s band The World Famous Headliners, along with Shawn Camp, Pat McLaughlin, and Michael Rhodes. In our conversation, Greg was really reflective. We take a look at the early beginnings. The people, radio, and the music of Memphis in its prime. We tap into playing sessions and the difference of today from yesterday with technology and the evolving business. You also get a glimpse of Greg's wisdom and foresight for the business and especially finding your way in the ever-changing of the business model.
