Hirna, written by Kabir, set to tune by Pandit Kumar Gandharva. In this song, Kabir says one must control one’s senses and desires by surrendering oneself at the Guru’s feet. Here is the original, a masterpiece by Pt Kumar Gandharva - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTN4k_w5ZBQ Lyrics, meaning and interpretation on this wonderful website http://www.boloji.com/index.cfm?md=Content&sd=MysticSongsDetails&MysticSongID=19 Thousand apologies for mispronunciations in a couple of places. It should have been bikaave, not bikhaave. Ten thousand apologies for changing the lyrics in one place. It should have been “teeje ban pag nahi dharna…” Sorry sorry sorry… Will never happen again. This song was recorded near Boat Rock in Rishi Valley School. Mihir Inamdar and I had climbed up after, maybe, ten years and lost our way up many times. The wind was crazy! And taking my guitar along was not a very intelligent idea. I don’t recommend it to people. It was like a sail and felt like I’d get blown away by the wind. Since we were up and reached this beautiful rock, just below Boat Rock, which we called "#rock" (haha!), we had just enough time to record one song, as we had to get down before sunset. Hirna it was, as I was singing it, in my head, all the way up! The first take lasted only thirty seconds as my guitar case and recorder got blown away by the wind and crashed on my face…! Had to pin down the guitar case with my legs and protect my recorder from the wind, with another small rock. What an experience!
