In chapter 5 of the gospel of Matthew, Jesus is CORRECTING the things that were being taught by the religious leaders of the time. They took the straightforward teachings of the law and added all kinds of new details and outward indications of piety. What they missed was what was happening in the heart.--Last week we started examining how Believers should deal with lust and we ended just as Jesus was about to discuss the matter of divorce. That topic deserves careful attention. Divorce - even in the best of circumstances - is a hurtful event in life. And yet the Bible has good things to tell us, to help us and to heal us.
