Religion & Spirituality

By: Dr. R. Heard, Can you be a Christian and still have doubts? Yes. John the Baptist was the first to acknowledge Christ, yet, as we have seen, he had doubts. 1. Can doubts be destructive? Yes. God is displeased if our doubts harden into unbelief. 2. If faith is the key to experiencing God's promises, doubt can prevent you from claiming all that He has promised. 3. Must all of your doubts be resolved and your questions answered before you can follow Christ? Some doubts, yes; and others, no. 4. Certainly the doubts I'll be addressing in this series should be resolved, such as: does God exist, is His Word true, and others. 5. Blindly ignoring questions can actually work against you. Honest doubts can lead to answers that increase your faith. 6. The real issue here is the difference between unbelief and doubt. As believers, we should know the power of asking the right questions. 1. Many believers have been taught that asking questions is a sign of unbelief and is therefore wrong. That isn't true. Progress involves asking the right questions. 2. Questions indicate true interest; a subject is considered worthy if you make an effort to understand. 3. Questioning parents does not indicate a child’s disbelief. Instead, curiosity and desire prompt the child to learn more. 4. The truth is, we cannot help but question something as glorious and wonderful as what God has already done and what He proposes to do. See Lyric's Section for Entire Sermon Notes...
