There is an extremely powerful bomb cyclone moving up the East Coast right now. This system originated in the Southeast, where it brought 10 tornadoes to locations in Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. After moving off the coast of South Carolina, the low pressure system rapidly intensified, dropping more than 24mb in less than 24 hours (definition of a bomb cyclone). Right when we thought this cyclone would simply move off into the Atlantic, a massive blob of high pressure over Canada helped to steer this system back towards the Northeast. The effects of this bomb cyclone will be felt throughout the rest of this week in the Northeast, however the exact timing and amount of precipitation will change as the forecasts progress and get better.
