Statement of Need In the United States, vector-borne diseases, including those transmitted by ticks, are occurring more frequently and represent a significant public health concern. The CDC reported the number of disease cases in the US and its territories caused by mosquito, tick, and flea bites grew more than threefold from 2004 to 2016. Tickborne diseases can be very serious and sometimes fatal, providers need to be aware of common symptoms. Because of the inherent delay in obtaining laboratory confirmation, early implementation of evidence-based treatment based on the patient’s clinical presentation is extremely important. Objectives At the conclusion of this offering, the participant will be able to: Discuss common diseases related to tick bites. Summarize the clinical symptoms of tickborne diseases. Discuss diagnostic testing to confirm a tickborne disease. Define evidence-based treatment for tick-related diseases. Moderator Mark J.
