Today, John Silver is the owner and brewer at Home Place Beer in Burnsville, NC. He named it that because Burnsville is his 'home place" where he was born and raised. Becoming a brewer has been 15 years in the making with John starting as a home brewery fresh out of college where he majored in journalism. He took a brief break, did the AT (Appalachian Trail) and then got his first job in the brewery business at Pisgah, cleaning growlers. Since that time he has worked at several breweries learning each stage of the process and operations.
