Iron sharpens Iron! Proverbs 27:17! Any time Christian men gather together whether at a men's breakfast or some men's conference I can guarantee that this verse will be brought up. We become like Tim the Tool Man when he gives his manly grunt when he is around his tools. But I am afraid that this verse has become nothing more than a cliche. It's a verse we have memorized but not internalized. It is superficial gospel speak! We have not in humility received it implanted as James says. Iron sharpening iron is one that produces irritation and friction in our lives. It is a sharpening that brings a visible transformation. It involves God's word the Holy Spirit and other men who love us and desire to be a part of the iron sharpening iron process in our lives. Men, something has to change!
