Jamie was training to become a pilot in America when his plane engine caught fire during a training flight, the fire reached the cockpit and Jamie managed to get the aircraft to a lower level and get himself onto the wing of the plane and jump to save his own life. Jamie officially states that he 63% third degree burns as well as facial trauma and internal injuries from secondary impact. Jamie was hospitalised in Florida and placed into a drug induced coma. Jamie then returned to the UK once stable to continue his treatment with the NHS at multiple burns units and specialists within hospitals. After more than 60 operations to recover from his very serious physical injuries, Jamie discusses the psychological impact of the accident.Jamie explains that he knew instantly the level of trauma he has just faced, and has fully conscious memories of the incident itself. Jamie explains for the first year, he was dealing with the trauma day by day and explained he was dealing with it well. Jamie then became depressed and was offered Psychological help which Jamie initially didn't believe he needed but explains he found this process very insightful. Jamie explains his depression was massively impacting his motivation to achieve smalls goals such as; learning to walk again and writing. Since Jamie's incident and overcoming his injuries he has retrained as a pilot, run marathons, climbed mountains and much more. Jamie describes himself as a 'true survivor' and now shares his story to help others.
