The Teaching of Jesus Christ GRACE and TRUTH – John 1:14-17 Grace and truth came by Jesus Christ – “ he dwelt among us …we saw His Glory” Grace and truth can not be separated …. GOD is willing to show us GRACE, ….. BUT GRACE can not be appreciated until we accept TRUTH Grace is underserved kindness that God bestows on sinners Truth is what sets us free If you are not willing to accept TRUTH …. You will never know GRACE and you will never be free from your sin. Grace and Truth came by Jesus Christ GRACE and TRUTH … Illustrated in the life of a women caught in adultery Culture - accusation - intimidation - double standard - outward holiness - inward hypocrisy - Truth was concealed - Grace was unknown Caught - caught in the act - guilty - going to die The Law condemns us all “ All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23 Commands of the Law “ the law commands us to stone her ” Jesus upheld the LAW - He endorsed it, - Matt 5:17 “ think not that I come to destroy the law” Jesus fulfilled the LAW – He came to fulfill all righteousness – Matt 3:15 Jesus bore the curse of the LAW – Galatians 3:13 “ Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the Law”. Jesus exercises CAUTION … and He touches the CONSCIENCE Two GREAT Truths - Condemnation and Justification Only God has authority to condemn Only God can JUSTIFY “ he that is without sin…cast the first stone ….they were convicted ” “ where are the accusers ? Has no one condemned you ? …Go and sin no more” GRACE “ When you have lifted up the Son of Man … then shall you know” John 8:28 It’s the TRUTH that leads you into GRACE - The truth is we are all condemned in our sin – CAUGHT / CONSCIENCE / CONVICTED / CONDEMED - The truth is that JESUS came to set us free (John 8:36) – to JUSTIFY us …Just like he did this women Acts 13:38 “ through this man, is preached unto you FORGIVENESS of sins, and ALL who believe in Him are JUSTIFIED from all things, from which you could not be justified, by the LAW of Moses” The teaching of Law and Grace in Scripture LAW was given to display God’s demand for holiness to demonstrate no human is righteous to demonstrate the need of a Savior The Law was a curse to everyone under it failure in one point meant “guilty of all” It was a burden no one could carry CHRIST is the end of the LAW to every believer believers are made righteous by faith in Christ and free from the LAW – Romans 10:4 GRACE Came by Jesus Christ God reaching out to humanity in compassion Undertaking for man’s greatest need – his SIN Jesus taking our place on a cross to save us Restoring a broken relationship / adoption Being brought into God’s favour Being restored becoming as a child of God Being justified ….freely Romans 3:24
