On this week’s episode, we talk to the director of The Bronx Freedom Fund, Elena Weissmann. The American prison system has been problematic as long as it's existed in this country. Organizations like the Bronx Freedom Fund, a community bail fund, are working to change that. Being poor shouldn’t be a crime and Elena helps us explain why. She broke down for us exactly what happens after you’re arrested, what happens if you can’t make bail, and why our current laws disproportionately affect the poor and people of color. Our quick take: NYC is not as liberal as we would think.
