Not In My House (A Basketball Podcast)

Miscellaneous

We of course love talking hoops on this show, but this episode is about more than just basketball. Kane Ma joins us today to chop it up about his hoops experience and share more about his story which has drawn much attention across the world. It is an absolute honor to learn more about him and his journey, and to help raise awareness to Stop Asian Hate. There are a lot of layers to this story. Ma was cut from his middle school team and again in high school as a Junior. Most would quit at that point, but Ma transferred high schools to continue his hoops dreams. He passed on a few basketball offers from smaller schools to go to North Carolina for academics. He put the work in on UNC’s JV team until finally earning a roster spot as a senior. He then went on to play in the ABL after his time as a Tar Heel. We loved learning about his background, UNC’s JV team, his UNC debut, Roy Williams, and the ABL. But we also learned more about the racially motivated attack on him. It’s not an easy conversation to process, but it’s a very important one and we truly admire him being so open, honest and strong about it.The strength Ma has shown to come out and share his story is making a difference across the world in helping raise awareness to stop Asian hate. We are truly honored to have this opportunity to allow him to share his experience in his own words and answer the questions we had to help educate our listeners on how we can all be better moving forward. You will learn quite a bit from Kane Ma today.
