During the holiday season, everyone is out at the mall, on vacation, or visiting family. How can you protect your home while you’re away?Selling your home? Get a free home valuation. Buying a home? Search the local MLS.The holiday season is starting. Today, I wanted to address some safety issues and give you some tips to protect your personal property. During the holiday season, people are out spending money and shopping at the mall. Some people leave their Christmas trees on at home or leave important personal items in the car. One of the most important safety tips I can give you as a former MPD officer and Realtor is to be careful on social media. Social media is a great way to keep up with everybody. However, when you post on social media, you are advertising that you are not at home. You are advertising that your home is vulnerable. Even the best of locks can allow unsavory people into your house, so be careful when posting to social media. Be careful when posting to social media. I also recommend that you document your valuables. Take photos and record serial numbers to help law enforcement track down the would-be thief or the person selling your personal items on the street. As great as social media is, not everyone there is exactly what they are supposed to be. Some people may be looking to break into your home while you are away at family functions or on vacation.
