“Here’s what I’m worth, here’s what I demand.” These are words that many women struggle to say - and that’s the subject of today’s real and raw conversation about women and money with Pamela Brooks, Organizational Development Consultant at Arizona State University. As a human performance specialist, Pamela studies how to help people and organizations reach their full potential. In this chat, she focuses on the research behind women, money, and performance. Pamela’s childhood experiences with money had nothing to do with growth potential. She was raised by hard-working parents without college degrees who taught her to pay cash, avoid debt, and ignore the divide between the “haves” and the “have-nots.” In her career, Pamela struggled to step up and ask for what she was worth -- and it wasn’t until she realized what a difference it made for other women that she began demanding higher pay. In a study about pay negotiation at Stanford, Penn State, and Harvard, women often had more advanced degrees and experience, but didn't ask for more money, while men consistently asked for higher pay. Why is this? Pamela dives into the emotions and logic that play into pay gaps, including fear of judgement from other women around asking for higher salaries.Pamela reminds us that it’s about more than just our own paychecks: “If you don’t demand what you’re worth, it’s going to make it harder for every female that comes after you.” Tune in to hear the real deal about women, money, and knowing your worth. Quotes: “Here’s what I’m worth, here’s what I demand.” (6:15-6:18)“If you don’t demand what you’re worth, it’s going to make it harder for every female that comes after you” (7:20-7:25)“With that lack of confidence and that fear, we pull ourselves away from the support we need to become larger.”“It doesn't matter what path we’ve taken in our careers, when we get to a certain point, we’re worth the same amount.”Links: Follow Vanessa Shaw on Instagram  Vanessa Shaw on LinkedInJoin The Million Dollar Group on Facebook Podcast production and show notes provided by FIRESIDE Marketing
