How often do you associate beauty with prayer? Most of us don't think about prayer in this way, but we have a great example of someone in church history who used beautiful, poetic phrases to speak to the Lord. We find this in the writings of Augustine, specifically in his monumental book The Confessions. But why should we desire to pray by using the most beautiful and poetic words imaginable in speaking to God? Because when Augustine does it, he uses scripture!
