With a mixture of trepidation and a very obnoxious sighing, Simon (@simoncross3) has to take another chance on watching the shoot-style pro wrestling of the late 80s and early 90s that was a prototypical presentation of what would eventually become mixed martial arts. This time it's Akira Maeda's debut RINGS show. The fall of the Iron Curtain saw an influx of Russian wrestlers, many of them trained in the sambo style that eventually would bring Khabib Nurmagamedov to the UFC. Volk Han, also of Dagestan, literally wrestled his first match and within the year was one of the most popular foreign workers in Japan.
