How often have we convinced ourselves that the key to getting all we want lies in a purchase? How often have we tried to know that one more thing is the answer to our prayers? Shiny object syndrome has been around as long as humans have walked the face of the earth. In this week's Torah reading, Lot, Avram's nephew, sees only that the land for his cattle is fertile. He doesn't see that it's located in a terrible place to live, from which he would soon need rescuing. Why do we chase shiny objects? How do we avoid it?
