The United States State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration contacted churches in Long Beach to ask for their assistance in resettling LGBT Ugandans who qualified for Refugee status in the United States. They’d been driven out of Uganda because the government passed laws legalizing the imprisonment of and even capital punishment for those who are LGBT. Those laws were passed in part because Ugandan legislators were influenced by white evangelical Christian groups based in the United States. It includes interviews with State Department officials in Washington, interviews with representatives from the volunteer agencies working with the State Department to place the Ugandans and interviews with Long Beach progressive Christians who are hosting the Ugandans.
