The world’s population is ageing. Virtually every country in the world is experiencing growth in the number and proportion of older persons in their population - driven by declining fertility and longer lifespans. According to the UN, 1 in 6 (16%) of people will be over the age of 65 by 2050 up from 1 in 11 (9%) in 2019. With this comes fundamental implications for how we prepare, manage and fund public services in cities and maintain productivity growth to ensure increasing standards of living. Key to this is also how, in an era of technological change, people prepare for and live in retirement.
