Metro Cinema Presents...Close-Up

Arts

A monthly roundup of films and events coming soon to the historic Metro Cinema in Edmonton, Alberta. As well as an overall look at the calendar for April with some of our regular contributors - Owen Armstrong, Heather Noel, Talicia Dutchin - this episode also features interviews with Panorama: Latin American Cinema curator Andrea Barragán, and Sally Poulsen, who brings Seeing The Unseen in acknowledgment of World Autism Day. NOTE: Due to developments regarding COVID-19 following the recording of this episode, we understand that many of the films discussed, if not all, will not be screened in the month of April. Instead, we urge our listeners to find these films and watch them in the midst of our current social isolation, if at all possible. Many streaming services can be accessed with a free 14-day trial, including criterionchannel.com, which is currently streaming both Safe, and Come and See, and First Reformed can also be found on Crave.  Otherwise, we hope that we are at least able to provide informative discussion and opinion in light of circumstances beyond our control. Throughout the episode, you'll also hear music from local artists Mark Templeton, Soft Ions, excerpts from Leonard J. Paul's excellent procedural film score to Beep - A Documentary History Of Game Sound, and also Brighton's Mighty Lord Deathman.
