Business

You might know Mike Michalowicz from one of his books like Profit First, Clockwork, or The Pumpkin Plan.Mike never dreamed of being an entrepreneur. After college he couldn't get a good job so he ultimately started his own business and fell in love with the process as he went through it.In the beginning his journey was very fear based which can be a great motivator but can also make one miserable. So he builds and sells his first two businesses, ends up getting overly confident, and on his third business he loses everything - except for his family.Mike went back to the drawing board to really understand entrepreneurship fundamentally. The notes he took are what eventually led to his books about simple, effective processes for getting consistent results.Mike was a pleasure to talk to and I got a lot out of this. Here are some of my biggest takeaways:Shifting your mindset to that of a shareholder in your business can dramatically affect your behavior. Scheduling a 4-week vacation a couple years out acts as a test for businesses on whether they can operate without their owner.Attitude, energy, and desire cannot be trained like a skill. We can keep this in mind while hiring.Avoid overwhelm by breaking down priorities into smaller time frames until it's manageable. In the beginning you are essential to your business but there comes a point where you must empower others to see the business grow beyond you.Be sure to follow Mike online at mikemichalowicz.com, Linkedin, and Facebook.
