In this episode of Off the Boards, host and lead writer Christian Fowler and GT247 founder Brooks Hansen break down Memphis' addition of former Miami guard Earl Timberlake. In his freshman season with the Hurricanes, Timberlake averaged 9.3 points, five rebounds and 2.4 assists per game while shooting nearly 45 percent from the floor. Timberlake was limited to seven games last season due to injury, and he will have an opportunity to prove himself in the Bluff City. Coming out of high school, Timberlake was the No. 35 overall player in the country and many saw him as an NBA draft prospect before his injury. Fowler and Hansen explain how Timberlake fits into Memphis' offensive and defensive plans next to the returning players. The former Hurricane isn't a great shooter, but he excels in put backs, rebounds and defensive versatility. 247Sports recently rated Timberlake as the No. 6 overall player in the transfer portal, so this is obviously a massive addition for the Tigers. With the addition of Timberlake, Memphis has now added two high level transfers, and Hardaway and the staff will continue to pursue options in the NCAA transfer portal.
