We have a legend, basketball royalty, and an all-time great in the house today. He is known as the Holy Hand and it is a true honor to have Hall of Famer Oscar Schmidt hang out and share his hoops story with us. The love, passion, and loyalty that he showed on the court to his teammates, country, and the game of basketball is now told in his own words.Oscar Schmidt is without a doubt one of the greatest players to ever play the game. We can’t possibly include all of his achievements in this summary because they are truly endless. He has scored over 49,000 career points with the most points in FIBA, Olympics, and even all of basketball history. Oscar helped lead Brazil to a historic victory over the USA in the 1987 Pan Am games where he torched the Americans scoring 35 of his 46 points in the second half. This game was considered one of the main reasons why the 1992 Dream Team was formed. Oscar was selected in that legendary 1984 NBA Draft but chose not to play out of loyalty to his country so he could play for his National Team instead. Players such as Larry Bird, Kobe Bryant and many others idolized Oscar, and any NBA great knows what an incredible player he was.Our time with Oscar was life-changing. He shared some incredible stories about growing up in Brazil, playing for the National Team, defeating the USA, The 92 Dream Team, Kobe Bryant, Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, playing for the Nets in the Summer League, the story behind the nickname “The Holy Hand”, Hall of Fame, and MUCH more.
