After becoming king, David ruled for seven years in Hebron before making Jerusalem his new capital. Bringing the Ark of the Covenant (cf. Exodus 25) into the city was the coup de grace, confirming that God’s presence was what made Jerusalem a holy place. To celebrate, David danced with abandon before the Ark as it was brought into the city. His wife, Michal, was disgusted (and a little jealous) that David would make such a fool of himself, but he was perfectly willing to be thought a fool for such an occasion. Does anyone think you are a fool for what you believe or how you live, or do you play it safe? How do you respond to the greatest reality in the world: that God is with us?
